4 nm slices through the 3-D volume of an electron tomographic reconstruction reveal the complex membrane organization of a cluster of peroxisomes. When membranes in the slices are manually traced a 3-D model is generated. The green color has been assigned to peroxisomes, dark blue to the rough endoplasmic reticulum, the ribosomes are depicted in red and lamellar sheets with light blue. The yellow peroxisome is one that is connected to a lamellar sheet. This movie illustrates that peroxisomes are often enclosed in a cup of lamellar sheets. The sheets are continuities of the rough endoplasmic reticulum. The opening in one of the sheets reveals a connection to the yellow peroxisome.
